Thursday's Results

Middletown Post 25 - 10, DE Post 1 - 2: Post 25 jumped out to an early lead in the first inning off of Adam Stein’s two-run homer, and added three more runs in the second inning with Zach Durham’s three-run shot. 

Elliott Gardner struck out nine batters over five innings for Post 25, only allowing one earned run.  Joe Wamba hit a double, and also scored one of Post 1’s runs off of D.J. Miller’s single.

R.C. DuPont Post 18 - 6, Post 10 Newark - 3:
Skibicki, Hannon, and Magee combine for a two hitter as R C Dupont comes from behind to tie the game at 3 in the sixth and then win it in the eight. Skibicki had the winning RBI as well as the win for R C Dupont.

Derek Marshallsea pitched eight strong innings for Newark in the loss.

Fox Post 2 - 6, Post 6 Patriots - 2:
Fox Post 2 took advantage of six Korey Hearn walks, plus 4 hit batsmen, two wild pitches and a single to score 5 runs in the first and 3rd innings, taking the lead in a game where Post 6 kept coming back, but just couldn't score runs.

Hearn only gave up one hit, and along with his team mates kept Fox off the scoreboard in the 2nd, 4th and 5th innings. Micah Idler came in for Hearn in the 6th and only allowed 1 run in two innings of work.

For Fox Post 2, Danny Gatto scattered 5 hits, and allowed only 1 earned run. He had 8 strikeouts in the game. Ronnie Rossi and Joey Babuca both doubled for Fox Post 2.

VFW 3420 - 12, Durney Post 27 - 8: Dylan Oakes was 4 for 5, scored 3 times and had 2rbi's and entered in relief and struck out 6. Chris Bianchino and Billy Sartin each had 2 rbi's and Dennis Massari had 2 hits and a rbi. Shane Sullivan scored 4 times for VFW. Chris Ott hit a grand slam for Durney, and Matt Joyce and Angelo Rodriguez had 2 hits each.

Post 28 Warriors - 17, Post 3 Milford Red Sox - 6 (5):

Stahl Post 30 at Delvets was rained out.

Two for One Wednesday

Durney Post 27 - 13, Delvets Post 1 - 8: Game completed from last week. While Del Vets scored three additional runs in the top of the seventh inning, it was not enough to erase a 13-4 Durney Post lead.

Chris Ott went 2 for 3 which included a 3 run HR in the fourth. Matt Joyce had two hits including a two run triple. Delvets Scott Dougherty had two hits and scored 4 times.
Matt Joyce got the win.

Delvets Post 1 - 6, Durney Post 27 - 4: Delvets scores 6 runs on 6 hits to take the regularly scheduled game.

Tuesday's Regularly Scheduled Games:

R.C. DuPont Post 18 - 18, Durney Post 27 - 17: Mike Mathews notches the win. Michael Stevens has the game winning two run single in a slug fest.

Middletown Post 25 - 9, Stahl Post 30 - 1:
Haas had a 2-run single and Gardener had a 3-run home run for  Middletown.

Post 6 Patriots - 5, Post 28 Warriors - 3 (11): It took almost a month, and eventually 11 innings, but the Post 6 Patriots scored 3 runs in the top of the 11th, then held on to finish a game halted by darkness after 8 innngs way back on June 16th.

Korey Hearn led off the 11th with a walk, followed by back to back singles from Steve Sharff and Zack Shofer. Shofer's single also scored Hearn. A Sac bunt from catcher Danny Petrone, moved the runners to 2nd and 3rd then Hunter Absher sacrified in Sharff for run 2. Jacob Williams finished the scoring with a single the drove in Shofer.

Post 28 did get a final run in the bottom of the 11th on a single and two walks, but a fly ball to center ended the game. Steve Sharff got the win in relief for the Patriots, Zac Moeser took the loss.

Delvets Post 1 - 9, DE Post 1 - 1: The Delvets jumped on Post 1's pitcher Andrew Cini early, scoring 6 unearned runs in the first 2 innings. A lead Post 1 could not over come.

Fox Post 2 - 13, Milford Red Sox - 6: Fox jumps ahead in the South Standings.

Suspended Games:
Post 6 Patriots - 12, Post 28 Warriors 10 (2) : The game was suspended by darkness  The game will be completed if it impacts the standings.
VFW 3420 - 23, Newark Post 10 - 15 (5): Game will be completed in the next 2 weeks.

Makeup Monday:

3 Teams from the North Division work to improve their standings as we make up games from the June Monsoons:

Delvets Post 1 - 2, R.C. DuPont Post 18 - 1: Delvets comes from behind in a A well pitched, well played game by both teams. 

Constantine Fournaris pitched a complete game three hitter.  He also had three hits and drove in Dave Mastro
with the winning run with the bases loaded hit in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Durney Post 27 - 7, VFW Post 3420 - 3:
Durney Post's Rob Courtney drove in three runs on two hits including a 4th inning triple. He went 2 for 2 with a Sac-fly and a walk. Dan Tiberi had a triple and scored twice. Matt Joyce had two hits and two stolen bases.

Chris Ott won his first start going 6 innings allowing two earned runs on four hits.

VFW's Shane Sullivan hit a solo HR in the 3rd, and Kevin Green hit a triple and scored on a wild pitch in fifth.

Sunday Makeups:

Central - South Battles involving some top teams....

At Reed Field, Wesley College:
Game 1: Fox Post 2 - 10, Post 10 Newark - 8:  Going into the 7th inning Newark had a 7 to 5 lead but in the bottom of the 7th Fox Post tied the game 7-7 with a walk, error, fielder's choice, and three straight singles..

In the top of the 8th Newark with two outs got singles from Alex Woods, and Adam Weiner, with Woods coming home on a infield error. Newark was up 8-7.

In the bottom of the 8th, with one out Fox Post got a single from Tony Gatto, error, and a walk off three run homerun by Randy Hurd to win the game. Ethan Singleton was the winning pitcher. 

Joey Babuca went 3 for 4(HR), Derrick Parker 3 for 5, and Randy Hurd 2 for 4 with a Home Run.

Game 2: Newark Post 10 - 12, Fox Post 2 - 1: Jeremy Varnir pitched a 1 hitter for Newark.

Newark scored 4 runs in the1st inning and 4 runs in the 5th to win the game in 5 inning. S. Brochl had 3 hits Andrew Bintley and Adam Weiner each had two hits for Newark. (reported by Zack Carter)

At Christiana:
Game 1: Post 28 Warriors - 17, Atterbury VFW Post 3420 - 11: Post 28's Peter Ott had 4 hits with 4 RBIs, one hit was a homerun.  D.J. Long had 3 hits. Kevin Guthrie, Matt Eskridge, Bo Wilkinson, Matt Cleary each with two hits. Steve Walker and Jesse Swanson each had a hit.

Matt Cleary was the winning pitcher for Post 28. For VFW Post 3420, Billy Sarrin batted 4 for 5 while James Mcallister went 3 for 5.

Game 2: Post 28 Warriors - 22, Atterbury VFW Post 3420 - 7: In one crazy game with hits all over, Matt Eskridge and Peter Ott went back to back two times with home runs.

Matt Eskridge hit 5 for 5 with nine RBIs and Peter Ott went 3 for 5.  Other players with three hits were Kevin Guthrie, Bo Wilkinson.  Collier Donald, D.J. Long, Matt Cleary and Shane Eskridge with two hits.  Steve Walker got the win.

For VFW 3420, Brian Rowe hit a grand slam. (reported by Mike Casale and corrected by Larry B)

North vs South + Central Teams Square Off

North vs South:
at Reed Field, Wesley College:
Game 1: Fox Post 2 - 3, Durney Post 27 - 2: Danny Gatto pitched a complete game for Fox Post, giving up 5 hite, 1 earned run and had 6 strike outs. With two oute in the bottom of the 2nd inning Joey Babuca had a two run single to give Fox Post a 2 to 0 lead. In the top of the 3rd inning Durney Post scored a unearned run to make the score 2 to 1.

Tony Gatto hit a single in the bottom of the 4th to drive in run number 3 for Fox Post. Tyler Hawthorne lead off the sixth inning with a double and scored the final run of the game. Tyler Hawthorne was 3 for 3, with a double for Durney Post.

Game 2: Fox Post 2 - 6. Durney Post 27 - 3 Durney Post took a 2 to 1 lead in the top of the 2nd inning on a 2 run home run by Chris Ott. In the bottom of the 3rd inning Fox Post scored 5 runs on 3 hits, 3 walks and an error by Durney Post.

Dan Tiberi led off the 6th inning with a double and score Durney Post 3rd run on a infield out. Final score 6 to3 fox Post. Bobby Brown pitched a complete game giving up 5 hits and 3 runs for the win

at Seaford
Game 1: Delvets Post 1 - 5, Post 6 Patriots 3 (10). A well pitched close game between Delvets Shan Yost, and Post 6's Korey Hearn was marred by a blown call in the field that would have scored the winning run in 8 innings.

In the bottom of the 8th, with the score tied 3-3, Robby Payne reached on an error, was batted to 2nd and stole 3rd. With runners on first and third, the Delvets pitcher moved to throw to first, then held the ball and chased Payne back towards 3rd, where he was tagged out to end the inning, but the play should have been called a balk which would have scored the winning run. The game continued and Delvets scored 2 runs in the top of the 10th to win.

Both teams had problems with errors (7 total in the game), but Hearn took a No Hitter into the 7th inning.

Game 2: Delvets Post 1 - 11, Post 6 - 4: Delvets put up 7 runs in the first inning on 2 hits, 2 walks and 2 errors, and held the lead for 7 innings to get the win.

Michael Reardon pitched 5 innings, allowing Post 6 to come back to a 7-3 score, but Delvets scored another 4 runs in the 7th to ice the game.

Jimmy Vachris doubled for Delvets, Harrison Grube, Dave Mastro and James Bazckowski all scored 2 runs for Delvets,  Grube and Mastro also had 2 RBI's each.

At Delaware Tech:
Game 1: DE Post 1 - 14, Post 28 Warriors - 6: T. Crist gets the win pitching a 5 hitter. Crist also had two hits and an RBI.  J. Tunell had 4 hits with 2 RBI's. 

Leading the way for Post 28 was Peter Ott with 3 hits and 4 RBI's.

Game 2: Post 28 Warriors - 12, DE Post 1 - 3:
Trent Bennett got his first American Legion win giving up just 3 hits.  Peter Ott with 2 hits and 4 RBI's.  Kevin Guthrie had 4 hits.

at Milford:
Game 1: Milford Post 3 Redsox - 3, R.C. DuPont Post 18 - 2:
Game 2: R.C. DuPont Post 18 - 16, Milford Post 3 Redsox - 6:

at Christiana
Game 1: Post 25 Middletown - 4, Atterbury VFW 3420 - 0: Ryan Haas and Jay Croft combined for a two-hit shutout for Post 25, each also hitting a double in the game and scoring. 

Brad Alexander had two RBI’s for Post 25, while Dillyn Johnson and Jeremy Jones both doubled for VFW.

Game 2: Post 25 Middletown - 15, Atterbury VFW 3420 - 1 (5): Andrew Reynolds homered in the first inning for VFW, but Post 25’s offense exploded in the second inning, highlighted by a three-run shot by Chad Kuhl to help Post 25 gain the lead. 

Zach Durham’s base running allowed him to score four times for Post 25, and Eric Husni knocked in three runs, including a three-run homer in the fourth to widen the score. Mike Mycek allowed VFW only three hits over four innings.

at St. Mark's
Game 1: Post 10 Newark - 6, Stahl Post 30 - 5:
Jordan Oncay pitched a complete game as Post 10 completed a come from behind victory by scoring one in the bottom of the sixth. Alex woods had two doubles and two RBI for Newark . Gabe DeAscanis had a three run homer for Stahl.

Game 2: Stahl Post 30 - 12, Post 10 Newark - 3:Stahl Post earned the weekend split as Dan Geyeski threw a complete game. C J Craft, Gabe DeAscanis, Brandon Fallers,and Alex Jeandell all had two hits for Stahl. Andrew Bentley batted 2-4 for Newark.
