The 2014 Delaware American Legion Department Tournament:
Will begin on July 26th and run through July 31st at
Schutte Park in Dover. We are using a 7 team, double
elimination tournament as outlined by the National
American Legion Baseball organization. The schedule link
is to he right >>>
The 2014 American Legion Baseball Scholarship
Applications are due this week,
and may be presented to the committee at the State
Tournament by Sunday 8 PM. If a graduated
senior who is attending college in 2014-15 wants to
apply, they should download the Scholarship
Application, fill it out and get it to your
manager with the transcripts required, ASAP. At this
time the scholarship is $500.00 and is awarded by
criteria not related to your play on the field, but a
players academics, community service and need.
Prior winners from Delaware have also been selected by
the National American Legion as members of the Diamond
Sports All Academic team.

Jon Harris pitched a complete game 4 hit shutout.
Durney Post 27 - 11, DE Post 1 - 10
Alex Brittingham led Durneys offense with three hits including a 2 RBI triple, Matt Trincia and Kyle Phillips added two hits apiece. Post 1ís Mike Dunning went 4 for 4 scoring 3 times. The game ended on a 7th inning bases loaded walk to Kyle Cox scoring Tyler Gawel. Kyle Hodgeson got the win in relief.
Post 25 Middletown - 3, Delvets Post 1 - 0
Delvets: pitcher Schell threw a strong complete game allowing only 4 hits. In the bottom of 6th inning Post 25 lead off batter Stevens reached base on an error. Brock Long doubled to left field scoring Connor Stevens. Another fielding error allowed Chad Bell to get on base. Delvets intentionally walked Ryan Zwier. Post 25 Mitch Clemons hit a line drive to left field scoring Chad Bell and Brock Long.
Mitch Clemons was 2-3 with 2 RBI'S, Brock Long was 1-3 with 1 RBI
Post 25 used 3 pitchers (Tommy Spagnolo threw 4 innings striking out 10 batters and allowed 3 hits. Rob Pitroli threw 1 scoreless inning, Garrett Maniatis threw 2 shutout innings for the win).
Stahl Post 30 - 13, Durney Post 27 - 3 (5)
Novak, Parker and Walter each had multiple rbi's for Stahl in a game ended after 5 innings.
Game 1: Post 25 Middletown -14, Durney Post - 0
Game 2: Post 25 Middletown - 12, Durney Post 27 - 6
Durney Post 27 jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first. Cox singled to ignite Durney Post 27's offense. J Bartlett singled, scoring Amaro. Durney Post 27 pushed more runs across when Cox scored on a sacrifice fly by T Lasko, Reyes scored on an RBI single by M Trincia, and B scored.
The game was back-and-forth heading into the fourth, with five lead changes.
Post 25 finally managed to grab the lead after a strong fourth inning. Post 25 went up for good on an RBI double by Shane Feehery off Boc, bringing home Zwier. Zwier had two extra-base hits for Post 25 Baseball. Matt Hooks got the win in relief for Post 25 Baseball. Matt Hooks pitched three innings and allowed no runs.
Post 25 built upon its lead with five runs in the fifth. Matt Hooks kicked things off with a double, plating Pitroli. Post 25 scored six runs in the first on an RBI single by Chad Bell, an RBI triple by Ryan Zwier, an RBI double by Shane Feehery, an RBI single by Mitch Clemons, and a two-run home run by Rob Pitroli.
Clemons, Pitroli, Zwier and Shane Feehery also helped lead Post 25 as they combined for eight hits and nine RBIs.
Boc ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He allowed seven runs in four innings, walked two and struck out two.

Durney Post 27 Catcher Tyler Hill was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in round 19.
Delaware State's D.J. Miller named to MEAC All American 1st Team (former Durney player who also made the Dean's List and earned the DSU Leadership Award as well)
Joining Miller on the All MEAC team are: Mike Alexander and Matt McClain.

The Francis J. Lucia, Jr. Team Sportsmanship Award
Given to the Delaware American Legion Baseball team in the State Tournament exhibiting the principles outlined in our Code of Sportsmanship (below). Both the team and sponsoring post/organization will be given a trophy to commemorate their achievement. Francis J. Lucia, Jr. was a long time supporter and participant in Delaware American Legion Baseball and was Chairman of the league in the 1980's.

The American Legion Baseball Scholarship is an annual award by the National American Legion Americanism Commission to a baseball player in each department who demonstrates outstanding leadership, scholarship, character and citizenship, and who has a demonstrated need for funding to continue their education beyond high school. Players are nominated by their respective team managers in June, and the winner is selected by the Department Baseball Committee each July.
