July 3rd Double Headers

Game 1: Fox Post 2 - 5, Post 25 Middletown - 4: Bobby Brown pitched 6 innings with 3k's 2 earned runs & Kevin O'shea pitched 7 inning1 hit , and 1 K.
Ryan Haas had 7K's for P25.

With Post 25 ahead 3 to2 in the botttom of the 7th, Ronnie Rossi lead off with a single, next batter, Joey Babuca singled, Zach Mawson then singled to load the bases for Fox Post. Derrick Parker hit into to force play at home for the second out, and the next hitter Tony Gatto singled to right field driving in two runs and the throw from the right fielder went passed the catcher scoring Derrick Parker for the winning run for Fox Post. Adam Stein went 2 for 4 and Eric Buckland had two hits for Post 25. Ronnie Rossi and Tony Gatto both had two hits for Fox Post.

Game 2: Fox Post 2 - 4, Post 25 Middletown - 2: Post 25 scored two unearned runs in the first inning and after which Post 2's Tommy Dill kept them off the scoreboard.  Eric Buckland gave up 3 unearned runs for Post 25. Tommy Dill and Eric Buckland both pitched outstanding games for their teams.

Game 1: Stahl Post 30 - 19, Post 3 Milford Red Sox - 3
Game 2: Stahl Post 30 - 11, Post 3 Milford Red Sox - 4

Thursday's Results

Delvets 5, Post 10 Newark - 3: Mike Reardon pitched a complete game with 5 k's to pick up his 3rd win of the season. Derek Marshallsea pitched a complete game for Newark in the loss.

 Delvets offensively was led by Reardon who had 2 hits including a double with 2 RBI's. Jimmy Vachris had 2 hits an RBI , a run scored and 2 stolen bases, Harrsion Grube had 2 hits and a run scored, Matt Domian had 2 doubles, one of which went to the parking lot in left center at Friends, and Sam Cochran went 3-3 with an RBI.

Alex Woods had a hit, scored 2 runs and had a SB for Newark.

Durney Post 27 - 9, Post 25 Middletown 8: Durney Post came out strong in the bottom of the first by scoring eight runs, only to see Middletown chip away at the lead, then rally for five runs in the sixth inning to tie the game.

Durney Post was scoreless through five innings, until the bottom half of the seventh when Nick Tiberi and Ty Hawthorne walked with two outs, and Rob Courtney drove a ball into the left field gap for a walk off double and RBI.

Chris Ott was 2 for 4 with a 2 run triple, Nick Tiberi was 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored. Sam Goines and Rob courtney had extra base hits. Durney Post starting Pitcher Dan Tiberi had nine strike outs.

Middletown’s Ryan Gerlitz and Chad Kuhl both had three-hit nights, each scoring two times, and Eric Buckland had two doubles. Brad Alexander came on relief late in the first inning and only allowed 5 hits over five innings, which allowed Middletown to come back.

Stahl Post 30 - 7, R.C. Dupont Post 18 - 3: Brendon Fallers had a double with 3 runs scored, Brandon Payne had a double and 1 run scored with Dave Toribio ending the scoring for Stahl Post with a 2 run RBI single in the 6th inning.

Greg Rostick had 2 doubles and a single for with a RBI for R C DuPont.

What an Exit....!


One personnel issue that always faces American Legion Baseball Managers is players leaving early for college, and Fox Post 2's Will Ross became one of those players as he had to report to the Air Force Academy last week.

That didn't mean that he left the team without some fireworks.

The former Caesar Rodney High star batted 3 for 5 with a home run, and 2 doubles in Fox Post's win over Milford last week.

Fox Post 2's loss is the Air Force's (and our country's) gain. Ross started for the Dover American Legion Team for 3 years. We think he probably has a pretty good idea about how to make "shock and awe."

Divisional Matchup Night

Six Games were scheduled tonight - all between teams in the same division:

North: Durney Post 27 - 12, Delvets - 4: Durney just keeps winning and grabs the top spot in the North, as Rob Courtney broke open the game on a fifth inning base loaded triple. He had 4 RBI's on two hits on the night. Nick Tiberi had two doubles and three RBI's for the night. Ty Hawthorn scored three runs going 2 for 3 including a second inning solo home run. Chris Ott had a 3 hit night. Matt Joyce picked up his second win.

DelVets James Baczkowski had 3 hits on the night. Harrison Grube hit a RBI triple in the top half of the first. Third baseman Collin Cassidy had to leave the game after injuring his hand on line drive in the first.

R.C. DuPont Post 18 - 10, De Post 1 - 8: Post 18 came back at the end of the game to win.

Central: Post 10 Newark - 8, Post 25 Middletown - 4: Newark takes the lead in the Central div standings.

Stahl Post 30 - 7, VFW 3420 - 3: DJ Wood was 2 for 3 both doubles and scored twice, and Gabe DeAscenis was 2 for 3 with a rbi and scored once, then came in the 7th to pitch a scoreless inning. 

Latham pitched 6 strong innings giving up 3 runs on 7 hits while striking out 5. Chris Bianchino was 2 for 4 with a solo HR, and Dillyn Johnson was 2 for 3 with a rbi double.

These two teams will play a special game on July 4th at 11 AM at Wilson Field.

South: Post 6 Patriots - 8, Fox Post 2 - 6: The Patriots took advantage of a one out error to put up 6 runs, 5 unearned in the 3rd inning, to beat Fox Post 2 in Seaford Tuesday.  Korey Hearn struggled, but left the game in the 5th with a one run lead.

Steve Scharff took over and allowed no runs, 3 hits, and struck out 4 of the 10 batters he faced in the final 2 innings to get the save. He was helped by his younger brother, Eric's 400 ft home run in the bottom of the 6th which gave the Patriots a 2 run lead.

Joey Babuca doubled, and Tony Gatto tripled for Fox Post 2. Gatto batted 4 for 4 with a RBI.

For the Patriots - Eric Sharff doubled and homered, Hunter Absher also doubled in the game. Chris Cutsail batted 2 for 3 with an RBI, Zach Reynolds also hit 2 out of 3 times.

Post 28 Warriors - 5, Post 3 Milford Red Sox - 4: Another close game between division rivals. Jamie Jarmon got his first win on the mound.  Trevor Wilkins got the save.

Post 28's Bo Wilkinson hit a two run home run. Matt Faulkner hit a solo home run for Post 3.


Post 10 Newark 14, Delvets 1 (5): (Game Played Monday) Ryan Vietri (1-1) tossed a complete game (5 innings) giving up only 4 hits while striking out 6 in Newark's 5th win on the season.

Everyone in the Newark lineup had at least one hit including doubles by Sam Farley (3 RBI), Ryan Vietri (2RBI) and Pete Broehl. Vietri also contributed a single and a triple while Derek Marshallsea had three hits and three RBI. C Fournaris had a triple for DelVets

Sunny Sunday Makeups

Post 25 Middletown - 4, Post 28 Warriors - 3: Game 1: Post 28 led the game for five innings, until Post 25 rallied for three runs in the sixth to lead by a run, and maintained the lead for the win.  Andrew Blanford solo homered for Post 25 in the fifth inning, and Ryan Haas had two RBI’s in the game. Tyler Dean and Cameron Travalini each doubled for Post 28, and scored runs. (Games played at DTCC, Georgetown).

Post 25 Middletown - 19, Post 28 Warriors - 0 (5 Inn): Game 2: Post 25’s offense exploded in the fourth inning, putting up 10 runs which helped cap the game after five innings. Ryan Haas pitched a one-hit shutout, and hit a two-run homer for Post 25. Elliott Gardner had three RBI’s in the game, and scored three times for Post 25.

Stahl Post 30 - 6, Post 6 Patriots 2: Game 1: Post 6's Zach Reynolds struck out 6, but couldn't overcome 4 fielding errors, and timely hitting by Stahl, particularly Brandon Payne.

Payne hit a solo homer for Stahl, capping a 3 for 3 performance, and driving in 2 additional runs. Chris Cutsail doubled for Post 6. Dan Geyeski struck out 7, and scattered 8 hits to get the win.

Reynolds did start a pickoff double play catching Stahl's Zach Beaston off 2nd, firing the ball to 3rd baseman Spencer Coulbourne. Coulbourne tagged Beaston then  picked Brandon Payne off 1st base.

Stahl Post 30 - 11, Post 6 Patriots - 4: Game 2: The Patriots doubled up their score from the first game, but Stahl Post 30 dug out the big bats, with 4 doubles scoring 11 runs. Stahl also turned 2 double plays in the game

The game might have been closer, the Patriots left the bases loaded in 2 innings, but good fielding, and doubles by D.J. Wood, Brandon Payne, and 2 by Brendon Fallers turned the tide for Stahl.

Durney Post 27 - 13, DE Post 1 - 6:  -Durney Post hitters pounded out 15 hits for its fifth win in a row. Matt Joyce was 3 for 4 with a RBI triple. Ty Hawthorn was 2 for 4 with a two run Triple giving him four RBI's for the game. Rob Courtney, Sam Manelski, Sam Goines, and Dan Tiberi added extra base hits for Durney.  Post 1's Rob Jones and DJ Miller had two hits apiece.  Tyler Hawthorn scattered six hits and got his first win.

Finally, A Sunny Saturday

Fox Post 2 - 13, Delvets - 1 (5) Game 1: Tommy Dill picked up the complete game victory and Dominated the Delvets hitters by keeping them off balanced. Offensively Fox Post took advantage of walks and Key hits to pull out the victory.

Delvets  - 4, Fox Post 2- 3: Game 2:
Constantine Fournaris pitched 6 innings giving up only 2 hits while striking out 8. Even witht hat effort Fox Post tied the game in the 6th at 3-3. In the bottom of the 6th James Baczkowski had a 1 out single and than took second base on a passed ball.Connor Mchugh followed with a walk. With 1 out Matt Domian lined a ball through the left side scoring Baczkowski with the winning run. Mike Reardon picked up his second win of the season in relief. Bobby Brown was the tough luck loser after pitching a great game for Fox Post. James Baczkowski had 3 hits including a double for Delvets.

Durney Post 27 - 16, Milford Red Sox 8: Game 1:  Milford took an early lead in the game, but Durney battled back, finally scoring 8 runs in the last two innings to get the win.

Ty Hawthorn went 2 for 3 including a 2 run Homer and a bases clearing double giving him 5 RBI's for the game.

Nick Tiberi had a 3 run HR and scored three times. Chris Ott added 2 doubles and drove in 3 runs. Durney's Joey Beringham came on in relief in the fourth inning and got the win.The game was closer until the top of the 7th when Durney's bats came alive, scoring 5 runs to put the game out of reach.

Durney Post 27 - 14, Post 3 Milford Red Sox - 1: Game 2
Durney Posts Dan Tiberi won his second game of the season allowing only 2 hits by Milfords Josh Gorney which included a forth inning solo HR. Dan went five full innings striking out 12. Rob Courtney finished the game on the mound. Rob also hit 2 HR's driving in 5 runs. Ty Hawthorn also hit a 2 run homer.

Delaware Post 1 - 8, Post 6 Patriots - 7: Game 1: Post 6's Hunter Absher pitched all 6 innings of the game and tripled, but allowed 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th to put Post 1 ahead to stay. Patriots did score one last run in the 7th, but it wasn't enough to catch Post 1.

Ray Pierkanski doubled for Post 1, Matt Rancino tripled. Tom Christ had 3 RBIs.

The score see-sawed until the 4th inning, when the scoring almost stopped.

Delaware Post 1 - 7, Post 6 Patriots - 6: Game 2: The Patriots jumped out to a 3-0 lead before errors, walks and timely hitting allowed Post 1 to tie the game, then take the lead in the 3rd inning.

The Patriots scored 3 more runs in the 7th to take the lead on an error by Post 1. But they came right back in the bottom of the inning with one run scored and two more on 2nd and 3rd, Matt Loughead line a single into left to win the game.

Tyler Ruark doubled for Post 6, Jason Powell for Post 1.

Post 25 Middletown - 7, VFW 3420 - 2: VFW took a one-run lead in the top of the third inning, but Post 25 battled back with three runs in the bottom of the third, and retained the lead for the remainder of the game. 

Elliott Gardner allowed only two hits and one unearned run over six innings, and hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth.  Six Post 25 players hit doubles in the game.

2009 Delaware American Legion Baseball Scholarship

The American Legion Baseball Scholarship is an annual award by the National American Legion Americanism Commission to a baseball player in each department who demonstrates outstanding leadership, scholarship, character and citizenship, and who has a demonstrated need for funding to continue their education beyond high school. Players are nominated by their respective team managers in June, and the winner is selected by the Department Baseball Committee each July.
